Bankroll in Poker

How do I double my bankroll in poker?

Jonathan Little is considered one of the most successful poker players, with over $7 million in prize money during his career. He has written 15 instructional books and regularly gives interviews, which are followed by his fans, as well as all those who haven’t given up hope of becoming successful in the poker community. So how do you double your starting bankroll in 3 weeks following Jonathan’s advice?

Good bankroll management is the key to success. The mistake most beginners make is in their approach to poker. They see poker as an opportunity to get rich quick. The exact opposite is true: you can get rich, but only if you play slowly and stay within your budget. Even an experienced poker player cannot play without a bankroll.

Jonathan shares his first gambling experience. When he was 18 he played Limit Hold’em with stakes of 25 to 50 cents. He was able to increase his bankroll as long as there were 100 big bets. At some point, he learned that he could minimise the chances of losing by placing 300 big bets. He followed this truth and grew to a limit of $15-30.
Many people think that it is possible to build a bankroll from scratch, but it takes a very long time to do so. Let’s see if this corresponds to reality.

If a person can play at 4 tables online at the same time, he can play around 250 hands per hour. If he wins 2 big bets for every 100 hands, he can win 5 bets per hour. If you need to play 150 big bets to raise your limit, it means that you need to spend 30 hours playing. After that, you will advance to the next level with a higher limit.

A Systematic Approach to Poker

When it comes to No Limit Texas Hold’em, the most popular form of poker, Jonathan Little recommends having at least 30 buy-ins and, better still, having even more money in the account. Such a statement is relevant if a player plans to stock up on 100 big blinds. Tables with fewer numbers imply an even larger bankroll.

A good player per 100 hands is capable of earning around 10 big blinds. With 250 hands per hour, a player will win 25 big blinds. As a result, playing for 8 hours every day will allow a player to double his bankroll in a period of up to 3 weeks.

In multi-table tournaments, you need to have at least 100 buy-ins in your account. The reason for that is that big prizes can be won here if a player reaches the top 1% of the field. That can be very difficult to achieve. If you want to play a single-table sit-n-go tournament you need to have at least 50 buy-ins in your account.

The amounts given are just the minimum limit. For those looking to play professionally, the values given need to be doubled. A large bankroll will also be needed if you play a strong line-up with a low win rate. In tournaments with 1000 people you will need even more money to play.

You will make a profit if you manage your bankroll correctly. If you fail to do so, it will be a matter of simple gambling.
